GREEK LIFE

Membership in a fraternity or a sorority provides numerous opportunities for you to become involved in leadership roles. You will have opportunities to hold chapter offices and/or Greek Council positions.

Individual chapters hold various leadership programs on both the local and national level. In addition, the Greek community sponsors leadership workshops in which all Greek members are encouraged to participate.

Each semester the Greek community sponsors a nationally recognized speaker on issues affecting Greek life or student life in general.

Many Greek members are involved in other campus organizations such as student government, specialinterest clubs and organizations, University Program Council, recreational sports, and many others. These organizations give Greek members another opportunity to develop leadership skills.

Greeks make up 9% of the student body at UND. On average, 80% of the 9% of Greek members are involved in other campus organizations and leadership opportunities.

Order of Omega is a Greek leadership honorary that recognizes both academic achievement and outstanding leadership. Members of this society are recognized once they have attained junior or senior status, have shown exceptional leadership, and maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Scholarship
Scholarship, academics, and grades are the mainstays of college life. Greek organizations at UND recognize the importance of scholastics and encourage their members to excel academically above all else.

Although the Panhellenic and Interfraternity Councils do not require a specific grade point average to participate in recruitment, many chapters have a minimum grade point average requirement for joining.

Most chapters have national and local scholarships that are awarded each year. Chapters also provide workshops, tutoring, study sessions, quiet hours, available study space, and computer access.

Gamma Sigma Alpha National Greek Academic Honor Society promotes intellectual interaction between Greek students and the community. This honor society recognizes Greek members with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above during their junior or senior year or a GPA of 3.5 or higher in any semester of their junior or senior year.

Fraternities and sororities maintain active alumni relations, which provides many opportunities for career networking. This alumni interaction can lead to many possibilities when you are looking for internships or job searching as an undergraduate or graduate.

Service and Philanthropy
Greek members interests and concerns go beyond the confines of campus life. Each year chapters sponsor activities to positively impact the local community and raise funds for their philanthropies and help other chapters with their philanthropies.

Chapters also promote projects such as canned food drives, book drives, adopt-a-highway, and athletic events. Each chapter at UND supports a different local charity or service.

Many individual Greek men and women volunteer their own time in local programs such as Adopt-a- School, Children's Miracle Network's Dance Marathon, the Salvation Army, and others.

Social

Sororities and fraternities offer a wide range of social activities and programs for their members.

Individual chapters organize different social events including formal dances, social functions with other sororities and fraternities, parents' formals, date parties, homecoming, and Greek Week activities.

Social events are a great way for members to take a relaxing break from the daily routine of classes and work and get together to meet new people and have a good time.

Social Responsibility - The Panhellenic and Interfraternity Council have established a social responsibility policy to promote responsibility in regards to the use of alcohol. All members are expected to follow local and national laws. Chapters also hold many events that do not involve alcohol.
